Andy Grammer – Keep Your Head Up

I usually don’t post über-popular songs. But I also don’t really listen to the radio (I hate ads) so hopefully this is new for some of you. Anyways, here’s Andy Grammer, an up-and-coming artist from LA whose self-titled debut album was released last month. Enjoy.

Sasquatch 2011

This summer, I went to Sasquatch, a 4-day music festival at the picturesque Gorge Amphitheater here in Central Washington. In 72 hours, I saw (in order, //’s indicate day separations) the Foo Fighters // The Head and the Heart, Local Natives, Wolf Parade, Pink Martini, The Antlers, Washed Out, Matt & Kim, The Glitch Mob, Death Cab for Cutie, Bassnecter // Beach House, Cold War Kids, Flogging Molly, The Flaming Lips, Flying Lotus, Modest Mouse, Ratatat //Young the Giant, Noah & the Whale, Chromeo, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Foster the People, Rodrigo y Gabriela, The Decembersists (for full lineup, click here).

There will be a lot of posts here, I’ll do my best to give at least a genre for each artist. I hope you join me in discovering new great artists. But first, here’s some pictures.

Much love,

Huth

Flying Lotus (multi-genre, experimental, electronic)

Flying Lotus was awesome live. He mixes up many different styles into one track. If you like this one check out “GNG BANG” and “Do The Astral Plane”).

 Washed Out (synth, chill)

If you watched the 6-episode show Portlandia, you will recognize Washed Out’s “Feel It All Around” as it’s opening scene. If you haven’t seen it, you should. And you should also get into this artist. If you like to listen to Ratatat for hours on end, you will want to do the same with Washed Out.

Noah & The Whale (indie, folk)

You may have heard of this band before. Their British, which is pretty obvious after you take a look at their lead singer. L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. is the new hit off of their latest album, The Last Night on Earth.

Chromeo (electrofunk)

I believe the Sasquatch writeup best describes this band: Chromeo is slick. Chromeo is dripping with reverb. Chromeo is Moog riffs, luxurious harmonies, macho guitar solos and real-deal songcraft. Chromeo is Pee Thug and Dave 1: best friends since their adolescence, virtuoso musicians, walking hip hop encyclopedias, and the only successful Arab/Jew partnership since the dawn of human culture.

Karmin Covers

I hope a lot of people have already listened to these tracks…I think I have managed to bug all of my friends with this video. Listening to Karmin drop Weezy’s verses like she owns the place is worth your time. In fact, I’d say I prefer both of these covers over the originals any day. Her background singer is pretty legit too, apparently the two are engaged? Pretty crazy if you ask me.

Nas & Lauryn Hill–”If I Ruled The World”

It’s good to be back on the blog!

I figure everybody is already up to date on the newest Blue Scholars’ album Cinematropolis. If not, I posted one of my favorites from the album, definitely check that out. Anyways, in honor of resurecting the blog I thought I would throw up a timeless classic from Nas and Lauryn Hill. Enjoy “If I Ruled The World”

We’re Back… So Let’s Play Some Dubstep

After many months of not posting and server issues, I can finally say we are back and ready to blog. Fortunately I was able to back up everything so we can pick up right where we left off. Shout out to Chris Dube for hosting us and providing some technical support to get us back up to speed.

Much love,

Huth

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis—”My Oh My”

This track chills my spine. You may not quite understand the subject of this song unless you were raised watching/listening to the Mariners in their glory days. Macklemore wrote this song about the late, great Dave Niehaus who will always remain team’s best announcer and biggest fan through the good times and the bad. I feel as though I will never be able to relate to another song as well as I do with this one. So I hope you enjoy this tribute to a baseball legend and one of my all-time heroes, whether you can relate to Macklemore’s lyrics or not.

The XX—”You’ve Got The Love” (Theophilus London Remix)

So now that I’m out on winter break I’m going to try and be better about posting whether you like it or not. Today I’m throwin’ out a great remix to the The XX’s hit song “You’ve Got The Love.” The original is an indie classic, but Theophilus London goes over the top with some great (chill) rhymes. Be sure to give it a listen.
